Night and Day — Sérgio Mendes and Brasil ’66

While we’re in the Bossa Nova groove, let’s not forget Sérgio Mendes and Brasil ’65. When they launched their first album, Pearl was right there, ahead of the pack.

After the Academy Awards ceremony in 1968, the rest of the country caught up to her.  That’s when Brasil ’66 performed The Look of Love, the Oscar-nominated song from Casino Royale.  They did such a good job covering Dusty Springfield’s sexy version of Burt Bacharach’s  song, that their version outsold hers.

Here they are performing the Cole Porter classic, Night and Day.  You’ll learn why this tune is special in my next post.
