The Palladium was where Pearl really let her hair down. Considered to be the Home of the Mambo, the Palladium was where Tito Puente rivaled Tito Rodriguez. These bands delighted everyone, regardless of whether they were Puerto Rican, black or Jewish.
Wednesday, matinee day for the nearby theaters, drew a big Jewish crowd. More trains flowed in and out of Manhattan on those days to accommodate the ladies who were able to take in a show in the afternoon, and still be home in time to put dinner on the table.
